Workshop at UQ Brisbane

23.-24.7.2018, UQ Brisbane, Centre of Future Timber Structures:

In this continuing professional development course, Joe Gattas, Kim Baber (UQ Brisbane) and Christopher Robeller (DTC Kaiserslautern) introduced participants to computational design strategies for cutting-edge timber building technologies, including digital fabrication of integral timber joints and end-to- end digital design workflows for timber plate structures. This included an Introduction to engineered wood products (EWPs), mass timber structures, and CNC timber manufacture, Parametric design of integral mechanical joints for various types of timber constructions, and the design workflow for a simple structure using 2D parts and joints. Examples utilized the Rhino/Grasshopper Digital Fabrication Toolbox and the TPS plugin for the design and fabrication of timber plate structures.
